Verified Neuschloss

Lampertheim, Germany

Neuschloss in Lampertheim, Germany, originated in the late 15th century as a curial hunting lodge named Friedrichsburg, built between 1463 and 1470 by Elector Friedrich I of the Palatinate.

The castle was first documented in 1472 and rebuilt after its destruction in 1504 during the Landshut War of Succession. It was heavily damaged again during the Thirty Years' War in 1622 and was never reconstructed afterward. Over time, the castle structures were dismantled and used as a quarry by the town of Lampertheim.

In 1808, the local community purchased the former castle grounds, which later became the site of a chemical factory operating from 1829 to 1927. Most of the original castle buildings were lost, with only a two-story administrative residence surviving. Since the mid-20th century, the area has been developed into a residential district with over 1,400 inhabitants.

Environmental remediation efforts have addressed contamination from the former factory. Today, Neuschloss is a distinct district within Lampertheim, marked by its historical roots as a former noble hunting castle and industrial site.
