Neuweilnau Castle
Weilrod, Germany, Germany
Neuweilnau Castle is a Renaissance residence in Neuweilnau, part of Weilrod municipality in Germany's Hochtaunus district, originally built as a 13th-century medieval fortress beside an older Gothic castle.
Reconstructed between 1506-1513 by Ludwig I of Nassau-Weilburg and expanded in 1564-66 by Philipp IV into a stately home with a new gatehouse, it served as the counts' main seat until abandonment in the late 16th century.
Now housing the Weilrod Forestry Office after 2003 renovations, the preserved main building, vaulted cellar for events, fachwerk structures like the 1650 Preveniushaus, and remnants of the original ring wall offer a glimpse of Nassau heritage amid scenic Taunus walks and local Christmas markets.
