The New York Botanical Garden, established in 1891 and located in Bronx Park, Bronx, New York City, is one of the largest and most renowned botanical gardens in the United States, covering 250 acres.

It was founded through the efforts of Nathaniel Lord Britton, a Columbia University botany professor, and his wife Elizabeth, who were inspired by the Royal Botanic Gardens in London. The garden sits on land formerly part of the Lorillard estate and includes a diverse landscape with over one million living plants, significant collections, and habitats.

Key features include the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a large glasshouse showcasing tropical, desert, and temperate plants, and the LuEsther T. Mertz Library, one of the world's most extensive botanical research libraries. Since its opening to the public in 1900, the garden has served as a center for botanical research, education, conservation, and public enjoyment.

It has been a National Historic Landmark since 1967, with several buildings designated as New York City landmarks. The facility hosts a range of exhibitions, educational programs, and research initiatives, attracting more than a million visitors annually who come to experience its rich plant diversity, scenic landscapes, and scientific resources.
