Norfolk Botanical Garden in Norfolk, Virginia, covers 158 acres and was established in 1938 with support from the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression. The garden started as an azalea garden, planting thousands of azaleas, rhododendrons, and other plants with labor from a group of African American women and men.

Over the years, it expanded to include over 60 themed gardens such as a Japanese Garden, Desert Plants Garden, Rose Garden, and a Butterfly Garden. Key features include walking trails, waterways with boat rides, the NATO Tower, a Sunken Garden with a reflecting pool, and a tram for guided tours. The garden is also known for its collections of rare and exotic plants, healing gardens, and educational programs.

It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains a popular destination for nature lovers and families, offering a mix of scenic beauty, horticultural diversity, and cultural events.
