Nothberger Burg
Eschweiler, Germany, Germany
Nothberger Burg in Eschweiler, Germany, is a late medieval donjon castle ruin perched on a hill overlooking the Inde Valley, first mentioned in 1361 when Edmund von Engelsdorf was enfeoffed with it by Duke Wilhelm II of Jülich.
Featuring four round corner towers, a prominent oriel window, and remnants of a late Gothic main house from the 14th-15th centuries plus a gatehouse and outer bailey now used agriculturally, it evolved from a defensive fortress into a representative manor before suffering damage from fires, wars, the 1756 Düren earthquake, and WWII tank destruction.
Today a protected monument with a 660-meter encircling wall, it hosts events through a preservation society and offers scenic hikes amid the Eifel region's historic landscape.
