The Ökologisch-Botanischer Garten der Universität Bayreuth (Ecological-Botanical Garden of the University of Bayreuth) is a central scientific facility of the University of Bayreuth in Germany, established in 1978 with focuses on ecology and environmental research and teaching.
The garden features 16 hectares of outdoor grounds and 6,000 square meters of greenhouse space (Gewächshäuser), showcasing around 12,000 plant species in naturally designed habitats from around the world. The greenhouses include 3,000 square meters of demonstration houses containing tropical high-mountain plants, subtropical and Mediterranean plants, and other species from Asia, America, and Europe.
The extensive medicinal and useful plant garden (Nutzpflanzengarten) covers over 1 hectare and features approximately 800 species and varieties of medicinal plants, grains, vegetables, and other useful plants. The garden serves the university in research and teaching, provides conservation for endangered plant and animal species, and offers excellent opportunities for modern ecological field research while also functioning as an educational and recreational center for the public.
Outdoor grounds are open daily from 8:00-19:00 (March-October), while the greenhouses are open Monday-Friday 10:00-15:00 and Sundays/holidays 10:00-16:00, but closed on Saturdays. The visit is free and the garden is publicly accessible and barrier-free.
