Open Air Museum Royal Palace Tilleda in Kelbra is a fully excavated early medieval royal residence that served German kings and emperors between the 10th and 12th centuries, making it unique in Germany.

Spread over about five hectares, it preserves foundations and partly reconstructed buildings such as residential houses, representative halls, defensive walls, workshops, and technical installations on the original site.

As Saxony-Anhalt’s largest archaeological open‑air museum, it uses reconstructions, models, and original finds to show everyday life in the Ottonian and High Middle Ages, including craft production and court life.

The complex, operated by the town of Kelbra and located near the Kyffhäuser hills and Kelbra reservoir, is considered the prime example of an imperial palatinate and is open mainly from March to November, with guided tours and child‑friendly activity areas.
