Övedsklosters Gods
Öved, Sweden, Sweden
Övedsklosters Gods is a stunning Rococo manor house and estate located in Öved, Sjöbo Municipality, Skåne, southern Sweden, originating from a 12th-century Premonstratensian abbey founded by Archbishop Eskil of Lund.
Confiscated by the Danish Crown during the Reformation, it became a secular estate that changed hands frequently until Hans Ramel acquired it in 1753 and oversaw its complete reconstruction between 1759-1776 based on designs by architect Carl Hårleman, featuring a palatial main building of red sandstone, linden-lined causeways, French and English gardens, and a Rococo church.
Still privately owned by the Ramel family as their tenth-generation residence, the impeccably preserved ensemble includes sumptuous interiors with 18th-century furniture, art by masters like Sergel and Roslin, and expansive grounds hailed by King Gustav III as "too royal for a private citizen," celebrated today as Sweden's finest Rococo architectural complex.
