Palazzo Baronale, also known as Castello Lannutti, is a historic fortified palace overlooking the village of Archi in Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Its origins date back to the 11th century, making it one of the oldest landmarks in the area. Over the centuries, it was controlled by several noble families, including the powerful Caldora family, and gradually evolved from a military fortress into a baronial residence. The complex originally featured a quadrangular layout with towers, defensive walls, and a large central courtyard.

Its elevated position above the Sangro Valley gave it strategic importance and allowed it to oversee the surrounding countryside. During World War II, the palace was used by German forces as a military outpost and was heavily damaged before their retreat in 1943, leaving much of the structure in ruins. Today, the remaining walls and towers stand as an important symbol of Archi’s medieval heritage and offer a glimpse into the region’s long and complex history.
