Palazzo Baronale D’Amely is a distinctive 16th-century fortified residence located in the historic center of Melendugno, in Puglia.

Originally designed by the renowned military engineer Gian Giacomo dell’Acaya for Baron Pompeo Paladini, it was built as a defensive structure and is notable for its rare star-shaped layout, a feature found in only a few buildings in the region. The palace began as a fortified tower surrounded by a moat and equipped with a drawbridge, reflecting the military needs of the period.

Later, under the D’Amely family, it evolved into a noble residence while retaining many of its defensive characteristics, including thick walls and imposing architecture. Today, Palazzo Baronale D’Amely is one of Melendugno’s most important historic landmarks. Its unusual design, rich history, and connection to the region’s noble families make it a significant symbol of the town’s cultural heritage.
