Palazzo Collacchioni e Rocca Aldobrandesca - Capalbio
Capalbio, Province of Grosseto, Italy, Italy
Palazzo Collacchioni and the Rocca Aldobrandesca form the most important historic complex in the medieval hill town of Capalbio, in southern Tuscany.
Originally built as a fortress in the Middle Ages, the site was strengthened by the powerful Aldobrandeschi family and later expanded by the Republic of Siena, becoming a key defensive outpost near the border with Lazio. The complex consists of the imposing Aldobrandesca Tower, the oldest part of the fortress, and the elegant Renaissance Palazzo Collacchioni, which was added alongside it.
The tower offers spectacular views over the Maremma countryside and the Tyrrhenian Sea, while the palace preserves historic rooms, antique furnishings, and a rare Conrad Graf piano once played by composer Giacomo Puccini. Today, the fortress and palace are among Capalbio’s main attractions, valued for their rich history, well-preserved architecture, and panoramic vistas that showcase the beauty of southern Tuscany.
