Palazzo Madama is one of Turin’s most important historic landmarks, located in the center of Piazza Castello.

The building uniquely combines layers of history, having evolved from a Roman city gate into a medieval fortress, then a residence for the Savoy royal family, and later the seat of Italy’s first Senate after unification. Its striking Baroque façade, designed by architect Filippo Juvarra, contrasts with the medieval castle structure still visible at the rear, making it one of the city’s most distinctive buildings.

Today, Palazzo Madama houses the Civic Museum of Ancient Art, where visitors can explore thousands of artworks and decorative objects spanning the Middle Ages to the 19th century. As both a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage site, Palazzo Madama offers a fascinating journey through nearly two thousand years of Turin’s history, architecture, and culture.
