Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal, is one of the oldest and most sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in his form as Pashupati, the protector of all beings. Dating back to at least the 5th century CE, the temple sits on the banks of the Bagmati River and forms a major pilgrimage site attracting devotees and tourists worldwide.

The temple complex includes a two-story gilt-roofed pagoda main temple, over 500 smaller temples and shrines, and cremation ghats along the river, emphasizing its continuous religious importance. The temple is renowned for its richly decorated architecture, silver-gilded doors, and sculptures of deities, with entry to the inner sanctum restricted to Hindus.

Pashupatinath is especially vibrant during the Maha Shivaratri festival, drawing large crowds for prayers and rituals, reflecting its spiritual, historical, and cultural prominence in Nepalese society. It has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
