Petrela Castle is a historic fortress perched on a rocky hill at 329 meters above sea level in the village of Petrelë, central Albania, just 15 km south of Tirana.

Dating back to the 6th century under Byzantine Emperor Justinian I and rebuilt in the 15th century, it features a distinctive triangular layout with observation towers and once formed part of Krujë Castle's defense network, signaling via fires during Skanderbeg's resistance against the Ottomans.

Under the command of Skanderbeg's sister, Mamica Kastrioti, it controlled key crossroads like the ancient Via Egnatia. Today, it draws visitors for its panoramic views over the Erzen valley, olive groves, and mountains, plus a wooden restaurant inside offering traditional Albanian cuisine amid its medieval stone walls.

The castle blends ancient strategic importance with modern tourism appeal, accessible by a short drive or hike from Tirana.
