Pirmasens Schlossbrunnen
Pirmasens, Germany, Germany
Pirmasens Schlossbrunnen is a striking monumental fountain at Schlossplatz in the heart of Pirmasens pedestrian zone, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, featuring cascading water from higher Schlossstraße down to a basin flanked by bronze swans and dominated by a massive bull head sculpture gazing over the city.
Created by local artist Gernot Rumpf, it evokes the site of the former Landgrave Ludwig IX's hill-built castle—demolished after his death—with Ramba stairs once leading up from the plaza now framing the flow of about 70 cubic meters of water daily between 8 AM and 10 PM.
The swans' surfaces subtly embed Pirmasens' history from ancient tanning and shoemaking roots, illuminated at night as the city's most photographed landmark opposite the Old Town Hall.
