The Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, founded in 1988 by the Horticultural Society of Western Pennsylvania, is located on 460 acres of reclaimed coal mining land in Collier and North Fayette Townships near Pittsburgh.

The garden faced significant environmental challenges, including acid mine drainage and mine subsidence, requiring extensive land restoration before opening to the public in 2015. It features diverse woodlands, display gardens, walking trails, and educational programs centered on the native plants and ecosystems of the Allegheny Plateau. The site also includes historic structures like a renovated 1870s barn serving as a visitor center and event space.

Pittsburgh Botanic Garden is a growing community-focused destination that aims to inspire appreciation for plants, sustainable gardening, and environmental stewardship through its eight distinct gardens, woodlands, and public events.​
