Planitzer Schloß
Zwickau, Germany, Germany
Planitzer Schloß, located in the Zwickau suburb of Niederplanitz, Germany, originated as a medieval spur castle first documented in 1192 and destroyed by Hussites in 1430, followed by a late-Gothic/Renaissance residence that burned in 1640 during the Thirty Years' War.
The current four-wing Baroque palace was built between 1700 and 1720 by the von Arnim family on a new layout with a spacious courtyard featuring cobblestone paving and a later octagonal fountain from 1857.
After diverse uses including as a town hall, army hospital, Soviet headquarters, miners' home, barracks, and police academy, it stands today as a preserved cultural landmark on a basalt spur overlooking the Planitz valley.
