Punta Gorda
Belize, Belize
Punta Gorda, locally known as “P.G.,” is a small coastal town on the Caribbean Sea in southern Belize and serves as the capital of the Toledo District.
Lying on the Bay of Honduras, it is Belize’s southernmost sizable town and has a population of around 5,000 people of mainly Garífuna, East Indian, Kriol, and Maya heritage. The town functions as a quiet port and fishing hub and is the main gateway to outdoor adventures such as trips to the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve, rainforest hikes in the nearby Maya Mountains, and visits to remote Mayan villages and archaeological sites.
