Rapallo Castle
Rapallo, Italy, Italy
Rapallo Castle, also known as Castello sul Mare, is a picturesque seaside fortress that stands on a rocky outcrop along Rapallo’s waterfront in Liguria.
Built by the Republic of Genoa between 1550 and 1551 after a devastating pirate raid led by the Ottoman corsair Dragut, the castle was designed to protect the town from future attacks and became part of a wider coastal defense system in the Gulf of Tigullio. Over the centuries it served various roles, including as an administrative center, prison, and government facility.
Today, it is one of Rapallo’s most recognizable landmarks, hosting cultural events and exhibitions while offering beautiful views of the sea and the surrounding coastline.
