Rastede Castle
Rastede, Germany, Germany
Rastede Castle in Rastede, Germany, originated as a Benedictine monastery founded in 1091, later repurposed by Counts of Oldenburg after the Reformation when Count Anton Günther built stables in 1612 and a Baroque hunting lodge as his summer residence atop the old abbot's house.
Rebuilt in neoclassical style from 1831 under Grand Duke Paul Friedrich August and further historicized in the late 19th century, the yellow palace with its elegant wings served the ducal family until 1918.
Now owned by the municipality as Palais Rastede, it functions as a cultural center hosting concerts, exhibitions, weddings, and archives within its scenic park, though interiors remain closed to the public.
