Ravensburg
Germany, Germany
Ravensburg is a historic town in Upper Swabia, in the southeastern part of Baden‑Württemberg, Germany, lying along the Schussen River just north of Lake Constance.
It was founded in the 12th century and grew into a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire, becoming an important trading center, notably through the large “Ravensburg Trading Company” that exported linen, cloth, and paper across Europe.
Today the city of about 50,000 people is known for its well‑preserved medieval center, with surviving city walls, several towers, and three old town gates, as well as cultural landmarks such as the Mehlsack tower, the Veitsburg castle ruin, and museums including the Ravensburger Museum and other local history and art institutions.
Ravensburg is also internationally recognized as the hometown of the Ravensburger games and puzzles company, whose blue‑triangle logo is widely associated with family board games and jigsaw puzzles, and it hosts lively local events like the annual Rutenfest in July.
