Rhododendron-Park Bremen
Bremen, Germany, Germany
Rhododendron-Park Bremen is a vast 46-hectare public park in Bremen's Horn-Lehe district, Germany, renowned as the world's largest collection of rhododendrons and azaleas with nearly 600 wild species and over 3,000 cultivated varieties blooming spectacularly from late April to mid-June amid ancient beech and oak trees.
Established in 1937 on former farmland and forest through the initiative of the German Rhododendron Society, it incorporates a 3.2-hectare botanical garden relocated from Osterdeich in 1936, featuring over 5,000 global plant species in themed sections like alpine rarities, medicinal herbs, and wild natives, plus specialized areas such as azalea groves, heather gardens, bonsai collections, and the Yakushimanum Valley.
At its heart lies the Botanika nature center opened in 2003 with tropical greenhouses, a butterfly house, interactive exhibits, and playgrounds, all managed by a non-profit foundation since 2009, with free park access and paths engraved with the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
