Rocca Abbaziale, also known as the Rocca dei Borgia, is a medieval fortress that dominates the town of Subiaco from a rocky hilltop in the Lazio region.

Built in the late 11th century to protect the powerful Abbey of Santa Scolastica and assert control over the surrounding area, it combined military defenses with religious and residential functions. The fortress was later expanded and restored by Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, the future Pope Alexander VI, and is traditionally associated with the Borgia family.

Today, it is one of Subiaco’s most important landmarks, admired for its imposing architecture, historic frescoes, panoramic views over the Aniene Valley, and its role in the region’s medieval history.
