Rocca Brancaleone
Ravenna, Italy, Italy
Rocca Brancaleone is a large 15th-century fortress in Ravenna, built by the Republic of Venice between 1457 and 1470 after it gained control of the city.
Designed both to defend Ravenna from external threats and to discourage local rebellions, the fortress became one of the most important military structures in the area, with imposing walls, towers, and a fortified citadel. Over time, it lost its defensive role and was later restored and transformed into a public park and cultural venue.
Today, Rocca Brancaleone is a popular landmark where visitors can enjoy historic architecture, green spaces, and outdoor events while exploring an important piece of Ravenna’s Venetian heritage.
