Rocca della Verruca is a historic hilltop fortress located on Monte Verruca in the Pisan Mountains of Tuscany.

From its commanding position, it overlooks the Pisa plain, the Arno Valley, and the surrounding countryside, making it one of the most strategic defensive sites in the region’s history. The fortress was a key stronghold of the Republic of Pisa and played an important role in the long conflicts between Pisa and Florence.

Although the site was fortified as early as the 8th century, the main fortress was built in the 13th century and became the center of a network of castles and lookout posts used to monitor enemy movements. Today, the Rocca survives as impressive ruins and is a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts.
