Rocca Grimalda Castle
Italy, Italy
Rocca Grimalda Castle is a historic fortress and noble residence located in the village of Rocca Grimalda in Piedmont, overlooking the Orba Valley from a strategic rocky hilltop.
Its origins date back to the late 12th and early 13th centuries, when it was built around a powerful circular tower to control important routes between Liguria and the inland plains. Over the centuries, the castle evolved from a military stronghold into an elegant residence. After being acquired by the Grimaldi family in 1570, it was expanded and embellished, with major additions including a grand western façade, a chapel, and beautiful Italian-style gardens.
The family's long ownership gave both the castle and the village their present name. Today, the castle remains one of the most distinctive landmarks of the Monferrato region. Known for its historic architecture, panoramic views, and restored gardens, it welcomes visitors interested in the area's rich history, culture, and scenic landscape.
