Rocca Orsini is a historic fortress located in Scurcola Marsicana, in Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Originally built in the 13th century by the De Pontibus family as a medieval stronghold, it occupied a strategic hilltop position overlooking the surrounding plains and important routes through the region. In the late 15th century, the powerful Orsini family transformed the castle into a Renaissance fortress, adapting it to new military technologies.

The redesign, associated with renowned architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini, added features such as cylindrical towers, thick defensive walls, and a distinctive triangular layout that improved its defenses against artillery. Today, Rocca Orsini is one of the most important historical landmarks in the Marsica area. Restored after a long period of neglect, it offers visitors a glimpse into both medieval and Renaissance military architecture while providing panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.
