Rocca Spagnola is a historic fortress overlooking the harbor of Porto Ercole on the Monte Argentario peninsula in Tuscany.

Originally established in the 13th century by the Aldobrandeschi family, it was later expanded by the Orsini, the Republic of Siena, and Spanish rulers, becoming one of the region’s most important coastal defense strongholds. Built on a hill above the town, the fortress was designed to protect the harbor and monitor maritime activity along the Tyrrhenian coast.

Over the centuries, additional walls, towers, bastions, and defensive structures transformed it into a powerful military complex. Today, Rocca Spagnola remains one of Porto Ercole’s most recognizable landmarks. Its imposing architecture and elevated position offer spectacular views of the sea, the harbor, and the surrounding coastline, making it a prominent symbol of the area's rich maritime and military history.
