Rogaland Arboret is Norway’s largest arboretum, a lush botanical garden and living museum located in Sandnes, Rogaland county, near Sviland. Established in 1972 by Rogaland county and eight surrounding municipalities on the initiative of Bjørn A. Stangebye, it covers 173 acres (about 700 dekar) of forest and parkland that includes a small mountain peak called Skogarberg at 182 meters above sea level. The arboretum holds a scientific collection of more than 1,400 different tree and shrub species (taxa) from temperate and mountainous regions across all continents, featuring both common and unusual plants from around the world. Visitors can explore 15 kilometers of hiking trails and paths suitable for all age groups, making it a place for nature experiences and plant education, and the site is open every day from 24 hours with free access.
