Rubbia Castle
Castel Rubbia, Italy, Italy
Rubbia Castle is a historic manor-fortress located near Savogna d’Isonzo in Friuli Venezia Giulia, close to the meeting point of the Vipava and Isonzo rivers.
Built mainly between the 15th and 16th centuries on the site of earlier fortifications, possibly dating back to Roman times, it occupied a strategic position controlling important routes between northern Italy and Central Europe. Over the centuries, it belonged to several noble families, including the Torre-Valsassina and Coronini families, and was damaged during conflicts such as the Gradisca War and World War I.
Although privately owned and only occasionally open to visitors, the castle remains an important symbol of the region’s military, cultural, and architectural heritage.
