Ruine der Burg Neidenstein
Hollfeld, Germany, Germany
The ruin of Burg Neidenstein near Hollfeld, Germany, was likely built in the late 15th century by the Lords of Aufseß on a hillside overlooking the area known then as Gerweinsdorf or Gerbersdorf.
The castle was first documented in 1488 and held as a fief from the Bishopric of Bamberg. In 1525, during the German Peasants' War, the castle was completely destroyed. It was later rebuilt but faced further attacks during the Thirty Years' War when it was pillaged by local forces in conflict with the bishop. By the mid-17th century, the castle was no longer habitable and fell into ruin.
Today, only the remains of the enclosing walls and a roughly 10-meter high three-story residential building ruin survive, providing a historical glimpse into the region's medieval fortifications and noble heritage.
