Ruine Königsburg HWN 41
Germany, Germany
Ruine Königsburg (HWN 41) is a 13th- or 14th-century medieval hill castle ruin southeast of Königshütte in Germany's Harz Mountains at 486 meters elevation, first documented in 1312 as "castrum Koningeshof" when Halberstadt Bishop Albrecht I acquired it from Heinrich von Botvelde.
Likely built by the Counts of Regenstein to protect mines and the Halberstadt bishopric border along the Bode River, it featured a round central bailey, outer ward, bergfried tower, walls, and moats before abandonment by the early 16th century and partial dismantling in 1551 as a quarry for Königshütte buildings.
Today its visible ramparts, ditches, tower remnants, and scenic Brocken views mark Harzer Wandernadel checkpoint 41, accessible via short steep paths from the Warm Bode bridge for hikers.
