The Saint John's Abbey Arboretum in Collegeville, Minnesota, encompasses 2,500 acres of diverse natural ecosystems including prairie, oak savanna, northern hardwoods, conifers, lakes, wetlands, and bogs, reflecting the region's unique biodiversity.

Founded by Benedictine monks who settled the area in 1856, the land was historically used for farming and forestry before being designated a state wildlife refuge in 1933. In 1997, the monks officially dedicated the land as a natural arboretum focused on conservation, education, research, and spiritual renewal, embodying the Benedictine principles of stewardship, stability, and hospitality.

The arboretum emphasizes native plant communities rather than formal tree labeling, serving as a living laboratory and sanctuary that supports environmental education for thousands of students, community members, and researchers annually. It features more than 20 miles of hiking trails through scenic landscapes rich with oaks and other native flora, while also hosting the Saint John's Outdoor University, which offers extensive outdoor and environmental learning programs.
