Salvaterra Castle is a medieval fortress that stands on a hill overlooking the historic town of Iglesias in southwestern Sardinia.

Built in the second half of the 13th century, probably under the rule of Count Ugolino della Gherardesca during the Pisan period, it was strategically positioned to defend the city and maintain communication with other nearby fortifications. After the Aragonese conquest of Iglesias in 1324, the castle was strengthened and became an important symbol of royal authority.

Over the centuries, it evolved from a purely military stronghold into an administrative center, while later modifications reflected changing uses and architectural styles. Today, Salvaterra Castle is one of Iglesias’s most significant historical landmarks.
