Sandhills Horticultural Gardens in Southern Pines, North Carolina, was established in 1978 with the creation of the Ebersole Holly Garden, which hosts the largest collection of hollies east of the Mississippi River.

The gardens have since expanded to cover approximately 27 to 32 acres and feature a diverse range of themed gardens including a formal English-style garden, conifer and rose collections, a native wetland trail, a fruit and vegetable garden, and a Japanese garden. Located on the campus of Sandhills Community College, the gardens serve both as an educational resource for the college’s nationally recognized landscape gardening program and as a public space open daily for visitors.

The gardens blend horticulture, nature, and design, offering a peaceful environment for plant enthusiasts, nature lovers, and community events, reflecting the region’s climate and natural heritage.
