Santa Fe Botanical Garden
Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States
The Santa Fe Botanical Garden in Santa Fe, New Mexico, began in 1987 as a vision of local gardeners, botanists, and environmental advocates to create a botanical garden celebrating the region’s unique natural and cultural heritage.
Located on Museum Hill, it opened its Orchard Gardens in July 2013, featuring a fruit orchard nestled into a hillside and flanked by meadow and xeric gardens designed to thrive in the arid climate. The garden expanded with the opening of Ojos y Manos: Eyes and Hands in 2016, an ethnobotanical garden showcasing plants used by Native American and Hispanic cultures for food, medicine, and crafts.
The site is connected by the historic Kearny’s Gap Bridge and includes the Piñon-Juniper Woodland, a natural area reflecting the native landscape. The gardens emphasize water conservation through design elements like rock channels and rainwater catchment, while offering educational programs and art installations.
The botanical garden spans about 20 acres and serves as a place for reflection, learning, and community engagement, honoring the botanical diversity and cultural history of Northern New Mexico.
