Schelklingen, first mentioned in 1127, is a historic town in Germany named after its castle and the noble Lords of Schelklingen.

The territory was acquired in the early 13th century by the Counts of Berg, who expanded and governed it, establishing Schelklingen as a recognized town with municipal law. Over time, ownership passed through various noble families and was mortgaged multiple times, eventually coming under the control of the Habsburg dukes from Austria.

The Schenk von Castell family held the area from the 17th century until the 19th century when feudal rule ended with its incorporation into the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1806. Schelklingen's rich history reflects a blend of noble lineage, strategic medieval importance, and evolving governance through centuries of changing political landscapes.
