Schlagenthin
Germany, Germany
Schlagenthin is a village and district of Jerichow in Saxony-Anhalt's Jerichower Land, Germany, located 18 km northeast of Genthin along the Schlagenthiner Stremme river, bordering Brandenburg.
First recorded in 1378 as "Slantyn," it saw forest clearance for farmland by the late 16th century, was purchased by Prince Ferdinand of Prussia in 1766, and gained a narrow-gauge railway from Genthin to Milow in 1899 that operated until 1967.
Schloss Schlagenthin, its manor house, passed to Prince August Ferdinand in 1767, was remodeled around 1843 by Graf Harry von Arnim-Nassenheide, and spearheaded railway development under his son Henning August before 1945 land reform expropriation.
Incorporated into Jerichow in 2010, it features a coat of arms with an oak on a hill linked to the legendary Frau Harke who formed the Eichberg.
