Schloß Droyßig
Droyßig, Germany, Germany
Schloß Droyßig is a unique Renaissance castle in Droyßig, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, built in the early 13th century by Crusader knights as a medieval fortress to guard a key road junction, featuring a double ring wall, six half-round towers, a moat, and a central round keep influenced by Eastern fortification techniques.
In the early 17th century, Christian Julius von Hoym converted it into a residential palace by erecting new buildings atop the sturdy outer walls, adding a distinctive Mannerist church over the former moat in 1622 that remains unfinished inside.
Notable for its preserved defenses and a historic bear enclosure, it passed through noble families like the von Bünau, von Hoym, and Princes of Schönburg-Waldenburg until 1945.
