Schloß Eichhof
Germany, Germany
Schloß Eichhof is a moated Gothic castle built between 1328 and 1372 by the abbots of Hersfeld Abbey as a defensive stronghold near Bad Hersfeld in Hesse, Germany, featuring Buntsandstein construction, an inner courtyard, and an outer bailey beyond the moat.
In 1572, Abbot Ludwig Landau expanded it into a Renaissance summer residence with added half-timbered upper stories, ornate gables, and lavish interiors including the Luther Room linked to Martin Luther's brief stay, preserving much of its form to this day.
Since 1965, it has served as the headquarters of the Hessian Agricultural Center Eichhof, while its courtyard hosts open-air performances during the Bad Hersfelder Festspiele.
