Schloß Grumbach
Rimpar, Germany, Germany
Schloss Grumbach in Rimpar, Germany, originated in the 11th-12th century as a fortified seat of the von Grumbach noble family, first documented in 1328 when acquired by the Wolfskeel line who adopted the name, featuring a rectangular layout with towers and later Renaissance expansions around 1525.
Passing through feuds involving infamous Wilhelm von Grumbach—executed in 1567 after plotting against Würzburg's prince-bishop—it was sold to the Würzburg diocese in 1593 as a lavish summer residence hosting courts of up to 140 until 1744, when Werneck Palace overshadowed it.
Damaged by French invasions and altered in the 1780s-1800s with new roofs and wings, the restored complex now serves as Rimpar's town hall since 1984, housing archaeological and bakery museums amid its preserved southern facade.
