Schloß Kropstädt
Kropstädt, Germany, Germany
Schloss Kropstädt in Kropstädt, a district of Lutherstadt Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, originated with a 12th-century water castle called Liesnitz built around 1150 by the Lords of Liesnitz, which was stormed and destroyed by Wittenberg citizens in 1358.
Rebuilt in 1567 by Moritz von Thümen, the old structure was demolished in 1842 and replaced between 1855–1856 by Friedrich Adolf Karl von Leipziger with the current English Neo-Gothic brick palace designed by Berlin architect Friedrich Hitzig, featuring two unequal risalits, arcades, and a surrounding 10-hectare landscape park with valuable old trees.
Expanded in 1908–1909, it served as a children's home during the GDR era until 1991, later becoming a hotel, restaurant, and event venue after privatization.
