Schloß Landsberg
Ratingen, Germany, Germany
Schloss Landsberg in Ratingen, Germany, traces its origins to a late 13th-century medieval hilltop castle built by Count Adolf V. von Berg to guard a vital Ruhr River bridge linking Kettwig and Ratingen while defending against neighboring church territories.
By 1288 it passed to the Lords of Landsberg, who held it as their seat until 1903, transforming the fortress into a Renaissance-style residence in the 17th century under Arnold Friedrich von Landsberg with features like a 33-meter bergfried tower, a 1666 Herrenhaus with curved gables, and added wings.
Industrialist August Thyssen acquired it in 1903, remodeling it into a luxurious historicist mansion with Jugendstil elements, including opulent interiors like the oak-paneled Great Hall, winter garden, and archive tower amid an English landscape park.
