Schloß Marienthal
Eckartsberga, Germany, Germany
Schloß Marienthal in Eckartsberga, Germany, originated near a 13th-century Cistercian nunnery founded in 1291 by Bishop Bruno of Naumburg, which dissolved during the Reformation by 1539 with buildings falling into decay.
In 1730, the Münchhausen family demolished most remnants to construct the "Old Castle" as a noble estate with farm and park, later rebuilt by the von Wilmowsky family in 1913-1916 into its current form after partial demolition.
Post-WWII nationalization turned it into a children's home until 1990; since 1996, the Schreiber family has owned and restored it as a charming countryside guesthouse.
