Schloß Wolfsgarten
Langen, Germany, Germany
Schloss Wolfsgarten is a Baroque hunting lodge built between 1722 and 1724 by Landgrave Ernst Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt near Langen in Hesse, Germany, about 15 km south of Frankfurt am Main.
Designed by architect Louis Remy de la Fosse as a rectangular courtyard complex with a main residence, stables, and kennels for the parforce hunts introduced in 1709, it fell into disuse after 1768 when the practice ended, until Grand Duke Ludwig III restored it from 1834 onward.
Serving as a favored retreat for later grand dukes and post-1918 residence for the House of Hesse, it remains privately owned by the Hessian House Foundation as the Landgrave's home, opening its expansive park twice yearly for rhododendron festivals and garden events.
