Schloßturm Schwabsburg
Nierstein, Germany, Germany
Schloßturm Schwabsburg, also known as the Schwabsburger Schlossturm, is the remaining stone tower of a former castle high above the wine village of Nierstein on the Rhine in Rheinhessen, Rhineland‑Palatinate, Germany.
The original Schwabsburg was built around 1210 during the Staufer period to protect imperial lands and control the surrounding area, but it was largely destroyed by Spanish troops in 1620 and later dismantled, leaving only the massive lower section of the former Bergfried standing today.
This 23‑meter‑high tower, made of large stone blocks, now serves as a local landmark and viewing point, offering visitors a fine outlook over the Rhine plain and the vineyards of Rheinhessen, while the surrounding ruins and the history of the site are part of the local cultural and wine‑tourism landscape.
