Verified Schloß Netzschkau

Netzschkau, Germany

Schloß Netzschkau, located in Netzschkau, Saxony, Germany, is one of the earliest Renaissance residential castles in the region, built around 1490 by Caspar von Metzsch, a prominent figure at the Saxon court.

The castle replaced an older medieval fortification and features a distinctive longhouse with round and square towers, showcasing late Gothic and Renaissance architecture with ornate sandstone door frames, arched windows, and elaborately decorated interiors. The castle was enhanced in the early 17th century under Carol Bose, who added two wings and a private chapel, along with rich stucco ceilings and a tiled stove from 1627.

In the 19th century, the grounds were expanded with an English-style park by the Schönburg-Glauchau family, who were the last noble owners before the city purchased the property in 1944.

Despite significant damage in the mid-20th century, the castle has been partly restored and now functions as a cultural venue hosting exhibitions, concerts, and educational programs, making it a key historic and architectural landmark in the Vogtland area.
