Verified Schloss Beesenstedt

Salzatal, Germany

Schloss Beesenstedt is a protected historic manor house located in the village of Beesenstedt, part of Salzatal in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

Built in 1894 by Herrmann Nette from designs by Reinhold Knoch and Friedrich Kallmeyer, it served as the residence of the Nette family—descendants of the German poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock—until their expropriation in 1945. The manor was expanded in 1915 and housed Freemasonry meeting rooms, although the exact lodge affiliation remains unclear.

In 1921, during the Central German March battles, the castle was plundered. During World War II, it served as the seat of the Saxony government president, and postwar it was used by the Free German Trade Union Federation as a school. After German reunification, it stood empty for several years before being restored by private owners.

Today it is privately owned and popular for film productions and events; the famous band Rammstein prepared their 2008 album here, and parts of the movie "Honey Baby" were filmed on the premises. Architecturally, the manor features richly decorated facades with numerous balconies, towers, and a large hall with delicate ceiling stucco and a fireplace, reflecting its late 19th-century elegance.
