Schloss Bergfeld GbR
Eisenschmitt, Germany, Germany
Schloss Bergfeld GbR in Eisenschmitt, Germany, is a former hunting lodge turned castle-like residence built in 1900-1901 by Düsseldorf industrialist Hugo von Gahlen within the Franzosenwald forest, designed by architect Max Wöhler in a romantic Romanesque Revival style mimicking medieval fortresses with gables, turrets, battlements, and a bergfried tower.
Expanded in 1911 for family living and hosting notable guests like Kaiser Wilhelm II, it later served as a tuberculosis sanatorium until 1962 and a special school for disabled children until 1998, before private ownership by the Krämer family and restoration since 2011 by its current GbR operators restored its interiors for events, weddings, seminars, and limited rentals amid a picturesque park.
Today, this privately inhabited Vulkaneifel landmark blends historic grandeur with modern uses, though public access remains restricted to respect privacy.
