Schloss Braunfels, perched atop a basalt rock above the medieval town of Braunfels in Hesse, Germany, originated as a defensive fortress first documented in 1246 and has remained in the continuous ownership of the Counts of Solms-Braunfels family for nearly 800 years, now held by the Counts of Oppersdorff zu Solms-Braunfels.

Originally built to counter the nearby Counts of Nassau, it evolved from a simple bergfried tower and residential structure into the family's main seat after 1384, undergoing major expansions including a shift to neo-Gothic Revival style in the 19th century that defines its fairy-tale silhouette of towers and pinnacles visible across the Lahn Valley.
